Market Access, value and reimbursement: a major driver for RWD/RWE as well as pharmacovigilance

RWD represent the everyday conditions of health care delivery. Every contact between patient and physician, patient and hospital etc. generates RWD along the patient’s pathway, giving longitudinal and cross-sectoral information about the utilisation of health care services and of the individual health care costs depending on where and how a patient is treated. SHIC routine data cover nearly 90% of the German population, based on the regulations and the reimbursement procedures of the SHI-System. RWD are economic data (costs, spending) and do not include clinical or medical information or degrees of severity. The sometimes limited quality restricts analytics and makes plausibility checks necessary. Social data have the highest rank in data protection, the use is strictly regulated and limited by the social code book (SGB). Despite all the challenges and limitations RWD are widely used for SHIC internal, regulatory and scientific purposes.
